Today we’re going to be showing you Mafia gangster tattoos and their meanings and secrets. Stay locked in.
1: Russian Mafia
Russian criminal tattoos are highly symbolic, representing not only a person’s position in the criminal organization but also the illegal acts he has committed and those he has yet to commit. Inmates can show their criminal history, personality, and standing in the Russian mafia through tattoos. As a sign that one has served time in prison, a church or cathedral is the most popular Russian organized crime tattoo. Having stars tattooed on your knees is a common sign that you are a mafia captain who will not take orders from anyone. But stars on shoulders reveal jail guards that are members of the Russian mafia. People who don’t belong to the group or who fake having one of these tattoos are likely to get killed.
2: Albanian Mafia
The Albanian mafia is identified by their symbol, which is the double-headed eagle tattoo. It represents faith (basa) and respect for their lore (kanoon). The word “basa” is when trust is given to another person and betrayal does not exist. In case the trust is broken, the law “kanun” comes into force, which is described as “blood washes with blood,” where revenge is an inevitable system that is part of the Albanian tradition.
3: Aryan Brotherhood
This gang is different from other white supremacist groups because they have a few tattoos. They may use the same symbols as neo-nazis in the clan like the swastika and lightning bolts, but the most popular tattoo is a shamrock with a six on each leaf and an “A.B.” at the bottom.
4: Yakuza
Yakuza tattoos are typically extensive, covering large sections of the body, and feature a variety of distinctive Japanese characters with significant meanings in Yakuza culture. “Irizumi” is the name given to these tattoos, symbolizing perseverance and might. The dragon is a common addition to irizumi tattoos. Also significant among Yakuza tattoos is the tiger, which symbolizes a beacon in the afterlife.
5: Hells Angels
In the world of the Hell’s Angels motorcycle club, violence is as common as spilled beer. There are a few tattoos and symbols that are linked to the group. The death’s head tattoo stands for the gang, and the “one percent” tattoo in the shape of a rhombus shows that the Hell’s Angel is a rebel. It’s a direct reference to the American Motorcyclist Association, which says that most motorcyclists are good people, but one percent of them are bad guys. Hell’s Angels may also have the letters “AFFA” tattooed on their bodies, which stand for “Angel Forever, Forever Angel.”
6: Chinese Triad
In China, particularly amongst members of the Triad, tattoos have a long history of being associated with criminality. Dragons on the arms or back, or eagles on the chest, were two of the most popular tattoo patterns reserved for Triad bosses. At the time, dragons are the supreme cryptid in Hong Kong, standing for both power and good fortune.
7: Mara Salvatrucha
Some people say that the Mara Salvatrucha is the most dangerous gang in the world. They’re very violent and own their prisons. They also have many tattoos. “MS” and the number 13 are the ones that stand out the most. Everything must equal 13. If you ask them about their tattoos, they’ll show you how everything matches up with the number 13, which is their lucky number.
Lastly, most gangs are very serious about the tattoos they have on their bodies. Some tattoos are earned, like those that show a rank, skill, or years of experience. So it wouldn’t be a good idea to go out and get a tattoo that is related to a gang and has a meaning within it if the unearned tattoo was found out. It could have serious consequences for the person who got it.
